Two whily Kerry fans were spotted at the first tee decked out in the green and gold as John Rahm and Justin Rose got the balls rolling against Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau on the first round of the prestigious golf tournament.

The two Kingdom men later snapped themselves in the stands after going viral on social media.

Elsewhere, a pair of Munster men were also snapped at the opening tee.

Irish fans watched on as Europe went down 1-3 to the USA in the opening fourballs.

Rory McIlroy had a nightmare morning alongside Ryder Cup debutante Thorbjorn Olesen as the Holywood native was the only player not to card a birdie in his opening round.

The Dane also found the water twice in the first 18.

McIlroy and Olesen were beaten 4&2 by star US pairing Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler who dominated from the start at Le Golf National.

Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood were the only blue pairing that registered a victory in the opening round – winning 3&1 against Tiger Woods and Patrick Reed.

Meanwhile, Justin Rose and Jon Rahm were beaten by Tony Finau and Brooks Koepka – while Paul Casey and Tyrrell Hatton were beaten by Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth, both by a single hole.

Both teams are back out for the afternoon foursomes with Henrick Stenson and Justin Rose 3UP against Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler.

Sergio Garcia and Alex Noren are also 3UP against Phil Mickelson and Bryson Dechambeau – with Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson A/S against McIlroy and Ian Poulter.

Fleetwood and Molinari have continued where they left off with a 1UP scorecard so far against Johnson and Fowler.
