JORDAN SPIETH has always been about sinking putts but sadly it’s his game that is sinking fast just now.
The alarm bells really started ringing when Spieth missed his third cut in his last five starts at the Byron Nelson, held on his doorstep in Texas.

This is the event where he made his PGA Tour debut as a 16-year-old in 2010, entering the final round tied-seventh before finishing joint 16th.

But you would have thought he had never seen the course before as he slumped to a second-round 75 last Friday — which included his second quadruple-bogey NINE in less than a month.
The other came at Augusta, when his Masters hopes sank at the 15th.
Apart from the big numbers, the main worry for Spieth is that he seems to have lost all confidence in his putting — the thing that sets him apart from power-hitters such as Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy.
He even switched from a blade putter to a mallet head last week.

Yet he finished 137th in strokes gained putting in round two, giving up an average of two strokes to most of the 156-man field.
Even when he started with a two-under 68, he was still 114th on the putting stats. And he admits he is worried.
Spieth, 23, said: “I’ve got to figure out my putting and getting through the ball.
“I’m standing over it and I don’t feel like I’ve got a stroke that’s producing contact at the right time.
“I’ve spent hours working with my coach, and on the putting greens. But it’s in my head just now. I’ve got to get a couple to go in.”

At least the 2015 Masters and US Open champ has not lost his sense of humour.
The two balls he whacked out of bounds in his latest nine finished in a garden. And he said: “I’ve put it in those houses a few times before. I’ve got to get over that attraction.”
But he admitted the train-wreck scores are no joke, adding: “It has been just ridiculous at times.
“I’ve had so, so many over-par holes and it’s just not necessary. I’m trying to do too much.”
Spieth is not at crisis point — but he may be if he flops again this week at another of his favourite
Texas venues, the Colonial in Fort Worth.
He romped to a three-shot win there last year and has also posted two other top-seven finishes.
With the US Open just three weeks away, the young American desperately needs to rediscover his mojo on the greens.
